Hope 2 Freedom Recovery Homes (H2F) maintains strict policies regarding medication to ensure the safety, accountability, and sobriety of all residents and visitors. These policies are in place to protect the integrity of each resident’s recovery and to maintain a safe, drug free environment. Medication Disclosure and Approval All medications, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, must be discussed during the phone screening and intake process. Residents are not permitted to possess or take any medication that may be abused or interfere with recovery unless it has been explicitly approved by the Hope 2 Freedom leadership team. Some medications are known to interfere with drug screening (UA) results; therefore, Hope 2 Freedom will not compromise its policies and procedures. All medications will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and leadership may consult with the resident’s provider before approval. Residents must notify their peer leader and recovery homeowner within two (2) hours of receiving any new prescription. Newly prescribed medications must be discussed with the leadership team before they are taken, unless it is a medical emergency.
Prescription Verification Upon entering Hope 2 Freedom Recovery Homes: • All belongings may be searched. • Residents must present valid prescriptions for any medication they possess.
Prescriptions must clearly include: • Resident’s name • Provider name • Name of medication • Dosage • Date prescribed • Number of refills All medications must remain in the original prescription bottle or approved medication envelope. Release of Information (ROI) Residents must sign a Release of Information (ROI) allowing communication between Hope 2 Freedom Recovery Homes leadership and the president’s healthcare provider. The ROI must be completed within seven (7) days of admittance. This allows the leadership team to verify prescriptions, discuss medication changes, and maintain transparency in the recovery process. To prevent diversion and misuse: • All medications must be kept out of general sight. • Residents must store medications in a provided medication lock bag or safe box. • All medication lock bags or boxes must be kept secured in the designated medication safe located in the office, accessible only to the leadership team. Residents must pay a $20 refundable deposit for the medication lock box or medication bag. • The deposit will be returned when the box and key are returned. • If the key is lost, the resident must purchase a replacement medication box.
Medication Monitoring All medications may be subject to random counts by the leadership team. Medication counts will be conducted with the resident present, and both the resident and staff will sign off on the count. Residents may also be required to: • Produce their medication upon request • Follow leadership team–set medication schedules • Participate in confirmation laboratory testing when deemed necessary by the owners. Medications classified as Schedule I–IV or those with abuse potential will be closely monitored and logged by the leadership team. Medication Misuse and Diversion
It is illegal and strictly prohibited to: • Share medication • Sell medication • Divert medication to another person • Misuse medication in any way
Violation of this policy is considered a serious offense and may result in immediate discharge from Hope 2 Freedom Recovery Homes.
